Therapeutic Yoga

Yoga teaches us to cure what cannot be endured, and to endure what cannot be cured.”  ~ B.K.S. Iyengar

Yoga Therapy integrates neuroscience and connective tissue research with psychology and yogic principles. Its practices are supported by rigorous scientific research, and its practitioners abide by strict professional standards and accreditation and credentialing processes.

A certified yoga therapist holds advanced yoga teacher certifications and demonstrates expertise in seven areas of knowledge, skills and experience:

  •  Yoga philosophy, techniques, teaching skills and a minimum of 2,000 hours of individual client contact hours.
  • The application of yoga to people with different health conditions, physical and emotional.
  • An understanding of functional anatomy.
  • An understanding of the physiology of health and various disease states.
  • An understanding of medical care for various conditions, in order to support it with the appropriate yogic practices.
  • An understanding of other healing systems, such as various schools of bodywork and Western psychology.
  • ETHICS. Those working with a certified yoga therapist should expect the same level of professionalism and confidentiality as they would any other therapist or healthcare practitioner.
