“No mud, no lotus.”  ~ Thich Nhat Hanh

Yoga gave me my life back. Literally. To be able to share this phenomenally life changing experience with others is for me, a gift. My clients and students inspire me everyday and I am absolutely humbled to facilitate and bear witness to their own growth and healing.

In 1989, I was in an auto accident resulting in severe spinal injuries, nerve damage and a brain injury. My medical prognosis was profoundly discouraging as I was told the best I could hope for would be a lifetime of pain managagement and various forms of physical therapy…I would always have a limp and need a cane…I should not consider having children because of the toxicity of the medications I would need. I was only 23 years old. It was all too much and I sank into my first (of what would be many) bout of depression. Many months later, at the suggestion of a friend, I turned to yoga. I began studying and training under a number of senior Iyengar Yoga teachers, including Bobbi Goldin and Joan White.IMG_4230

Slowly, I began to make progress. Within a few years I was able to fully recover from my injuries. This deep healing is what moved me to share what I had experienced with others.

I began teaching yoga in 1994, and transitioned to therapeutic work in 2007. As a Certified Yoga Therapist, the focus is completely on the individual: after an initial intake session, I develop a program to address a client’s specific needs and meet with them on a continuing one-to-one basis.

Though my training is firmly rooted in the Iyengar Yoga tradition, over the years I’ve studied with other prominent teachers of various schools of yoga, as well. As a voracious reader and lifelong learner, I’m committed to furthering my own growth as a yogi and humanitarian. I’ve been heavily influenced by the work of the Vietnamese Buddhist monk Thich Nat Hanh and the contemplative Trappist monk Thomas Merton. My work is deeply informed by my graduate studies in psychoanalysis – specifically Alice Miller and Bessel Van der Kolk’s work in emotional trauma held in the physical body. I am trained and experienced in crisis intervention for victims of sexual assault, PTSD and chronic or systemic trauma.

In addition to working with clients, I also offer mentoring to current yoga instructors and experienced students looking to deepen their own practices &/or teaching skills.

I am available to clients in Westchester and the surrounding counties, including New York City, as well as remote access via FaceTime.

I look forward to meeting you.
